Surviving in these COVID-19 times

It is 2020 and this year has been brutal so far for so many. As I sit here writing, we are going through a pandemic that has people dying and people holding on to their lives. I won't try to explain COVID-19 because I assume we have all heard enough and understand the risks and the current impact of the virus. It has kept most of us in our homes with little or no social interaction, and has yielded the term "social distancing". I will however share the tips below on social distancing from the CDC.

As a fitness enthusiast and world traveller, this impacts me in the same way it impacts everyone else, but it also means the things that I spent a lot of my time doing or planning (the gym and planes) are no-go areas. If you are anything like me, you have had to come up with new ways to still enjoy at least some of those interests in a safe manner.

On Instagram, I have been sharing daily routines that you can do at home or anywhere really. This pandemic has re-emphasized the point that you can work out anywhere, so I thought I'd write some tips for how I am staying physically and mentally healthy at home, because at this time, we need both |||READ MORE …

ONE DAY AT A TIME

Last week was rather rough. I suffer from seasonal allergies so you can just imagine that every symptom started to bring out the paranoia in me. And although I’ve limited the amount of news I consume, I still had the tightest chest and at times felt like I could not breathe. I was finding myself feeling extremely worried for Sean. Sean works for Amazon and is not a person that stresses or worries easily and well, if he says he’s a bit stressed that’s a major thing to hear. I’m proud of him for being the person who spoke up and for being the person who is now in charge of all the social distancing efforts at his job. He is stressed because with everything going on, he still has to do his job which is already demanding. But if there is anyone who can assist in the safety of his employees it is him because he does not play politics. He is honest and good luck trying to change his mind about something once it has been made up. We came up with a system that we both agreed to when he gets home from work so that has helped.

I’ve had to talk myself down more than I can count but I find that this scripture “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” said multiple times then taking a deep breath has helped to calm the anxiety.
Instead of us, I say me.

Hearing daily about friends being exposed and having to quarantine and knowing that a lot of them can’t quarantine properly doesn’t help. Hearing of health professionals who have lost their lives trying to save others breaks my heart. I’m praying hard and find myself with tears running down my face as I pray for everyone. For people I know, for people I don’t know; I just want us all to conquer COVID-19 |||READ MORE ….

IMG IS NOW SCOUTING MODELS ON TIKTOK

In 2014, IMG Models introduced We Love Your Genes. It's an Instagram account, a hashtag, a scouting program and a broader strategy the agency created to discover fresh faces that it can develop and eventually add to its roster, all rolled into one. And it's had success stories — from Diana Silvers (a break-out in 2019's "Booksmart") to runway regulars like Lameka Fox and Gizele Oliveira.

A lot about social media has changed since then, from the way it looks to how we use it to what the big platforms are. Jeni Rose, SVP at IMG Models, tells Fashionista that the agency had built out a team that works on finding talent on Instagram over the past few years. (By its estimate, a fourth of its recruitment has been done through social media over the last five years.) And it was one of them that brought up TikTok as an opportunity.

"[They] said 'You know, I really think we should start looking at TikTok, because that truly is the demographic and Instagram has gotten so curated that it doesn't look the way it [did] give years ago, when we began scouting there,'" she remembers. "All of us thought, 'We're too old for TikTok. How does that work?'" |||READ MORE …

41 Transit Workers Dead: Crisis Takes Staggering Toll on Subways

The M.T.A. has been criticized for its response to the outbreak. Now a staffing shortage has made it difficult to keep even a diminished system running.

At least 41 transit workers have died, and more than 6,000 more have fallen sick or self-quarantined. Crew shortages have caused over 800 subway delays and forced 40 percent of train trips to be canceled in a single day. The average wait for some trains, usually four minutes, has ballooned to 40 minutes.

Since the coronavirus pandemic engulfed New York City, it has taken a staggering toll on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the agency that runs the subway, buses and commuter rails and is charged with shuttling workers — like doctors, nurses and emergency responders — who are essential to keeping the city functioning |||READ MORE …
