UPDATED: Senate approves $1.5bn, Euro 995m external loan for FG

The Senate on Tuesday approved $1.5billion and Euro 995million external loans for the Federal Government.

This followed consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts on the external borrowing plan of the Federal Government at plenary.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Clifford Ordia, presented the report.

Federal Govt Okays N8.39bn For Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Makera Road

The federal government has approved an N8.39 billion augmentation for the completion of a section of the Sokoto-Makera Road, which traverses Sokoto, Kebbi and Niger states.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), disclosed this to State House Correspondents yesterday after the federal executive council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential Villa .

Senate Okays N257.18bn Budget For Customs In 2021

The Senate, on Wednesday, approved the sum of N257,183,671,694.71 as budget for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the 2021 fiscal year.

The approval followed the consideration of a report presented by the Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariffs.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Francis Alimikhena (APC, Edo North), in his presentation, said out of the amount budgeted for the Customs in the 2021 financial year, the sum of N99,719,722,681.71 is for Personnel Cost; N19,530,769,000.00 for Overhead; and N137,933,180,013.00 for Capital Cost |||READ MORE

Uzodimma Signs Bill Repealing Pensions, Gratuity for Ex-governors, Others

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has signed an executive bill repealing the law that created pension allowances and gratuities to former governors, deputy governors, speakers and deputy speakers.

Speaking after accenting to the Bill at Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri, the governor noted that the law has become necessary as it runs contrary to the 1999 constitution as amended, which stipulates that a pensioner must have worked for at least 10 years and must be up to 45 years of age.

Uzodimma noted: “Apart from the inconsistency of such a law to the provisions of the ground norm, which is the Constitution of 1999 (as amended), this has led for a very long time a precedence that does not encourage diligence and prudence in service delivery.”|||READ MORE

 


COVID-19: Access Bank introduces Dual Transaction Service to enable customers access more funds



As the number of Coronavirus cases rises in Nigeria, Access Bank PLC has positioned itself at the top of the list of donors in a private sector co-operative intervention aimed to assist the Federal Government in the fight against COVID-19. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced this yesterday in a press statement aimed to keep the public abreast of the progress being made to defeat COVID-19 by all key players.

The Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, which was set up at the onset of the pandemic by Access Bank, in collaboration with The Dangote Foundation, has as of Wednesday, April 1st, 2020, raised N15.32bn.

Earlier in the week, the Group Managing Director, Access Bank PLC, Herbert Wigwe, had assured the public of the Bank’s commitment to, “support the government and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) by providing facilities that can serve as both testing and isolation centres.” |||READ MORE …


FCT IRS Explains Reason For Sending SMS To Taxpayers



The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT IRS) says the Short Message Service (SMS) sent to federal workers and those residence in the territory is in order.

According to the Executive Chairman of FCTIRS Mr Abdullahi Attah, the SMS is in compliance with the law which mandates the Service to do so.

Attah said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
