Minister Dissolves Board Of Sports Federation, Set Up Caretaker Committees

Barely three months to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Minister of youth and sports federation, Chief Sunday Dare has dissolved all the boards of 31 National Sports Federations and set up caretaker committees to run the fairs of the federation.

This was disclosed in a press statement on Friday in Abuja.

Makinde Awards Cash Gifts To Each Gold, Silver, Bronze Medalist

Each gold medalist from Oyo State in the just concluded National Sports Festival (Edo 2020) is to get N500,000, silver medalists, N350,000 and bronze medalists, N250,000.

Also, each of the state’s 55 coaches to the festival is to receive N500,000, irrespective of whether their trainee won a medal or not.

Thousands of revellers celebrated Mardi Gras in Sydney on Saturday night, with pictures showing scenes not witnessed in many other parts of the world since the coronavirus pandemic began.

A reported 5,000 people took part in the parade that was held inside the Sydney Cricket Ground to an audience of 36,000 in the stands, with people seen tightly packed together without the need for social distancing or face masks.

National Sports Festival To Go On, Minister Insists

Despite the ongoing #EndSARS protest across the country, the minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has insisted that the 20th National Sports Festival slated for Benin, Edo State, will hold.

Dare who spoke through a press statement from his media office, said consultations were ongoing between the ministry, Edo state government, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19, and National Council on Sports to decide on a new date to host the festival.

He described the news report to the effect that the games have been postponed indefinitely as fake and unfounded.

“Like we did by consulting with the PTF on Covid-19 when we lifted the ban on non-contact sports and later contact sports, discussions are ongoing to decide on a new date for the Festival. The fake news that the Festival has been postponed indefinitely must have emanated from a false source,” the statement said |||READ MORE

Caster Semenya to 'stick to 200m no matter what'

South African Olympic champion Caster Semenya has locked her focus into the 200m, no matter the result of her appeal to overturn last year's Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic rocked the sporting globe, Semenya was in a court battle to get the CAS decision that allowed athletics governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), to prescribe hormone-suppressing drugs for any woman with disorder of sex development (DSD) competing in 400m to 1 500m events.

LaLiga clubs are returning to training this week following the Spanish Ministry of Health’s approval for the return of sports training sessions.

UEFA postpone Euro 2020 until next summer amid coronavirus crisis



The competition will now take place next summer between 11 June to 11 July.
President Aleksander Ceferin chaired a video conference meeting on Tuesday to discuss the future of the 2019/20 season, including Europe’s domestic leagues, the Champions League and internationals.
Three separate calls were made; the first to decide on UEFA’s club competitions – the Champions League and Europa League – and the second to postpone the Euros by a year and scrap the Nations League.

Siasia Hopeful Of Raising N36.4m CAS Appeal Fee Before March 19


Samson Siasia says he’s is confident of raising the 100,000 Swiss Francs (N36.4m) appeal fee demanded by the Court of Arbitration for Sports, CAS, before his appeal on the FIFA life ban from football and $50.000 fine over allegations of complicity in match fixing could be entertained, Completesports.com reports.
“At the moment, not much has really come in. But I’m confident that before this month (February) ends, individuals and corporate bodies who want to render financial assistance would be able to respond positively,” Siasia told Completesports.com.
