A Look at Life Being Both Black and Gay in America Right Now

Very often, powerful stories are told with a cisgender white person at the forefront. They’re the main attraction, the voice of the people, meant to command attention and appeal to the general audience with their POV. But it’s been made clear, time and time again, that just won’t cut it anymore.

Even within the LGBTQ+ community, a group made up of beautiful, strong-willed gay, lesbian, queer, trans, and nonbinary individuals, those of color are frequently seen more in that supporting-type role than capable of having that lead perspective.

The progress and power of the Black Lives Matter movement, coming to the forefront during a month meant to represent love and equality, frankly couldn’t have coincided at a more appropriate time.
